One of the priorities of the Balearic Islands government is to gradually abandon tourism as the main source of income.
Progens said that she plans to develop sectors such as science, artificial intelligence, as well as increase investment in environmental technologies and the transition to clean energy. These steps should not only diversify the region’s economy, but also reduce its dependence on tourism.
Mass tourism is not the only problem facing Mallorca. The island also faces a shortage of water and affordable housing. Progens announced that these issues will be addressed in 2025. At the same time, the government plans to increase investment in educational programs and the development of the island’s infrastructure, which should contribute to improving the lives of local residents and ensuring a sustainable future for the region.
