Please note that when landscaping a summer residence, you need to adhere to a few important rules: the area of the site, as well as the selected stones should be proportional to the size of the rockery. Stones for rockeries should be of one breed, but at the same time different sizes, heterogeneous in texture, excellent if they have cracks and rough chips. At the same time, do not forget that with an excess of decor, your rocky area will lose its organicism and naturalness.
So, you want to create a rockery with your own hands – first select a place, it is best to choose the northern or eastern slopes open to the sun. There should be good drainage on the site, because excessive humidity will be destructive for alpine plants.
The choice of stones will be a very responsible business, if you plan to create a flat rockery, then choose a smooth river pebbles, for the elevated select massive stones and stones with broken sharp edges. Most often, a shell -to -core, granite, tuff, limestone, slate and sandstone is used to arrange a “stone kindergarten”. Remember that the basis of the composition should be created from large stones, but use small ones as an accent.
You should also competently choose plants for rockeries. Its basis will be miniature coniferous plants, small shrubs and ground cover plants. Also use bright spots – tulips, decorative onions, ferns.
